Is E-Invoicing Mandatory in Singapore? GST InvoiceNow Deadlines Explained

The actual dates, who they apply to, and what to do before your mandate window arrives.

"Is e invoicing mandatory in Singapore?" is one of the most common questions we get asked, usually right after "when does it apply to me?" Both are fair questions, because the answer depends on your GST registration status, not a single blanket date.

Is E-Invoicing Mandatory in Singapore?

Yes. Singapore's GST InvoiceNow mandate requires GST-registered businesses to adopt e-invoicing over the Peppol network, on a timeline that depends on when and how your business is registered for GST. This is not an optional upgrade, it is becoming a standard part of GST compliance.

New Voluntary GST Registrants: 1 April 2026

If you register for GST voluntarily, InvoiceNow adoption is required from 1 April 2026. There is no phase-in period for this group. If you are planning to register for GST voluntarily, it is worth getting InvoiceNow set up before you register, not after.

Existing GST-Registered Businesses: April 2028 to April 2031

If your business is already GST-registered, the mandate phases in between April 2028 and April 2031, based on turnover. Businesses with larger turnover are brought into the mandate earlier in that window, and smaller businesses later.

This staggered approach gives most existing GST-registered businesses a few years of runway, but e invoicing compulsory is still the reality for every GST-registered business eventually, just on a different clock depending on size.

Is E-Invoicing Compulsory If I Am Not GST-Registered?

Not yet, and not directly. The mandate is tied to GST registration. That said, if your customers or suppliers are GST-registered and already sending Peppol invoices, getting set up early can make those relationships smoother, even before it becomes compulsory for you specifically.

Grants to Help You Get Ready

Government grants of S$1,000 to S$5,000 are available to help offset InvoiceNow onboarding costs. If you are planning your budget around this, it is worth checking what applies to your business before you commit to a setup timeline.

What to Do Before Your Deadline Arrives

Whichever window applies to you, the practical steps are the same:

Leaving this until close to your deadline is the most common way businesses end up rushing a compliance requirement that, done early, is a fairly straightforward one-time setup.
